Description

The beautiful double star Albireo or β Cygni is easily recognised in a telescope due to the orange β Cygni A and the bluish β Cygni B, which appear as a single star to the naked eye. It is not known for certain whether they form an actual pair in orbit around each other, or they just happen to be a chance alignment of two stars along the line of sight. β Cygni B was previously thought to be at a far greater distance than β Cygni A, but newer satellite data suggest that they may be closer together, and forming a possible binary system, albeit one with a very long orbital period.

This image is actually a test shot to confirm that my collimation efforts of my telescope are not in vain. During the last couple of clear nights I have managed to get rid of most of the on-axis coma, and quite a bit of the off-axis astigmatism, though there is still room for improvement. Still, I'm fairly happy with this result.

Image acquisition with N.I.N.A., preprocessing and Photometric Color Calibration in Siril. Stretched and slightly sharpened in Affinity Photo
